The Silver tears
People say that in ancient times, when the light of
the moon was much brighter than today the light of the full moon was so strong
that it could transform tears into silver.
They say that if an innocent heart cries in the moonlight,
the light is reflected and caught inside each teardrop. And when the tears fall
on the ground, the moonlight will be trapped inside until the dawn as it begins
its journey back to the sun together with the first sparkling reflections of
the sunlight in the morning dew.
Before humans lived on earth, the gods of light
created the moon in order to light up the dark side of the planet so that the
gods of dark could not reign on the surface of our planet, even on the side
which is turned away from the sun.
Then the gods of dark found a way to steal the strength
from the gods of light:
They came up to the earth during the night and collected
the tears which had fallen to the ground after sunset.
And from the early beginning of mankind, humans had fought
each other so strongly and caused such pain and harm to each other that every
night millions of innocent tears fell to the ground. And most of the trapped
moonlight could not take its way back to the sun on the next morning.
So, during thousands of years, the world became darker
during the night, because of the countless tears which had been stolen every
night.
But the gods of dark could not pick up every tear that
had been cried:
If a tear freezes before it reaches the ground, the
moonlight which is caught inside the frozen drop will transform it into silver.
The gods of the dark fear silver, the shining metal of
the gods of light and so the moonlight which is caught inside a silver tear is out
of their reach.
Very in the north, where the winter nights are cold
and clear, and the full moon is big and round above the horizon, uncountable
silver tears have fallen onto the ground during the history of mankind.
They were blown away on the frozen ice with the strong
winter winds or washed away with the water of the melting snow or the heavy
rains in springtime.
They settled under stones and sand in the rivers and
the lakes. The silver tears made the water shiny and brilliant and gave the
spirit of light to it.
We still can see it today, when we look at a rainbow
or at a waterfall.
Most of the silver tears stayed in the beds of the
rivers or on the ground of the lakes but sometimes people find one of them when
they cross mostly untouched parts of the countryside, especially near rivers
and lakes. They are lying on the ground underwater like little brilliants,
reflecting the light in the colours of the rainbow.
People say that a silver tear protects the owner
against the dark forces because it is filled with moonlight, which is nothing
else than reflected sunlight.
May this silver tear protect the one who carries it
against the dark forces and may it be a little sparkling light in the dark
moments of life when there seems no other light left.
